Some of you may remember one of our former Club members - Avtar Matharu (aka Singhy). Singhy played for the men’s 1st team at WBHC from Oct 1992 to April 1996 and was first team skipper 94/95 & 95/96.

An exceptionally gifted player, an inspirational leader & a fully committed Club member - he set the highest standards of behaviour both on and off the pitch. Whether coaching the 1’s, encouraging juniors or just mixing with fellow Club members, Singhy gained the respect & admiration of all.

He moved up to York & became a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of York. And now he has received the amazing accolade of a MBE in the latest New Year’s Honours list!
